Can You Connect With Just How Good You Can Feel?

Get Clear on Your Why

It can be hard to make healthy choices if you don’t have a reason why. Why should I stop eating takeout every day at lunch? Why start going to the gym? Why reduce my screen time or meditate?

Your why has to come from within. Hearing someone else’s success story might inspire you, but true motivation comes when you believe in the possibility of change for yourself and deeply desire the outcome from self-discipline.

The tricky thing about motivation is that it requires belief. Do you believe you could feel better? Run faster? Be happier? Until you’ve experienced life on the other side of your current state, it can feel impossible to know if the effort is worth it.

Here’s the thing: you’ve only ever lived in your own body. You don’t know how others feel when they wake up. Nobody knows the full picture of someone else’s energy, joy, or inner dialogue and what’s on the surface is rarely the whole truth.

Two things need to happen for you to make lasting changes:

  1. You need to believe in your capabilities.
  2. You need a clear vision of your goal.

That second part takes some imagination—at least at first.

A Lesson from My Story

I’m writing this from experience. When I was 21, I didn’t have a reason to change my lifestyle. I was sipping beers on weekends and enjoying a carefree college life. Health felt like something I didn’t need to worry about yet.

That mindset changed when my body started giving me signals I couldn’t ignore: bloating, gas, and constipation became my new normal. I dealt with the discomfort for a while, but when those symptoms started showing up unpredictably—sometimes invading the personal space of others, if you know what I mean—I knew I needed to do something.

At first, I made changes because I felt like I had no choice. My motivation came from wanting control over my body, not from an intuitive desire for nourishment. It wasn’t until I got to the other side—feeling energized, clear-headed, and genuinely good—that I realized just how far I’d been from thriving. Looking back, I’m shocked I waited until “other people’s opinions” pushed me to act. I’d decided that feeling sluggish and uncomfortable was just my normal.

But here’s the truth: it wasn’t normal. And it doesn’t have to be for you either.

Envisioning Your Best Self

So how do you start? By believing in the best possible version of you.

Your future self could:

  • Wake up feeling fresh and energized.
  • Feel excited about the day ahead.
  • Get fulfillment from morning stretches and a big glass of lemon water.
  • Wiggle into your clothes with ease and dance out the door.

Whatever rings true to your unique, deep desires—that’s the person who’s possible. But to become that version of yourself, you need to see it clearly first.

A Journalling Exercise to Get You There

This is where imagination plays a powerful role. Visualization is a proven tool for rewiring your brain and building self-discipline into healthy habits. In the workbook linked here, you’re guided through a comprehensive future self and current self exercise to help you map out the transformation you want. You’ll also get a goal-setting template to turn those dreams into actionable steps.

Take it at your own pace, enjoy the process, and watch as your best self begins to emerge.

Final Thoughts

Believe me when I say this: you can feel amazing every day, and you absolutely deserve the effort it takes to get there. I didn’t know how good I could feel until I stepped into it—and you can, too.

Start your journey today. Your future self is waiting.
